Frequently Asked Questions
How many therapy days can we have in our school?
This depends entirely on you. Schools with a larger student population usually opt for 4/5 days a week whereas smaller schools go for 2/3 days a week. Schools with higher rates of non-attendance, behavioural issues or safeguarding concerns also choose more days.
Can you see students 1-1 and do group work on the same day?
Yes. During a therapy working day where we see students 1-1 every period, one period can be kept free. The free period can be allocated to a group therapy session (usually 6 pupils).
Can we refer any student for 1-1 sessions?
Schools with multiple provisions usually refer the students who have higher priority mental health needs to us. However we are happy to see all students you refer as long as they have agreed to having sessions.
Can we refer any students for group sessions?
We find group work is most effective for younger students with low level issues e.g. low level anxiety or self esteem issues. We do not recommend group work for complex trauma or high priority mental health needs such as students who are self harming or have suicidal thoughts - it is strongly advised these students are seen 1-1.
How much does it cost?
This will depend on the package we put together for your school taking into account your specific needs. Please get into contact so that we can issue you a package that works for you.
How is it different to counselling?
There are many things that make Thrive different to counselling. We are solution-focussed and goal oriented. We provide students with techniques to manage their feelings as well as offer practical coaching and root cause therapy. Our therapists are trained in many different approaches. We measure anxiety levels, depression levels and wellbeing using clinical assessments (used by the NHS). You have access to these scores as well as access to reports and session summaries (within the realms of student confidentiality). Unlike many school counselling organisations, all our therapists are fully qualified and highly trained in lots of approaches rather than just counselling. For more about this check out our home page.
